Luke “Bud” Eller, age 79, of Lansing, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Shepherd officiating. Burial followed in the Eller Cemetery on the Parker-Eller Road in Lansing.

The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service.

He was born Sept. 22, 1931 in Lansing to the late James Franklin Eller and Edith Farmer Eller. He was also preceded in death by his half-brothers, Blaine Eller, Lane Eller, Parker Eller and Ted Eller, and a nephew, Michael L. Hurley.

He is survived by a sister, Wanda Hurley and husband, Max, of West Jefferson; a niece, Shannon Hurley and husband, Graham Green, of Winston-Salem, NC; a great nephew, Garrison Luke Green of Winston-Salem, NC; and a half sister-in-law, Viola (Parker) Eller. He is also survived by several half-nieces, half-nephews and cousins.

Mr. Eller was a great keeper of family history. His family loved to hear him tell stories of roaming the mountains as a young man and of working the fields with a team of mules. He could always be counted on to be well-informed regarding the latest news and political issues. He was a knowledgeable and straightforward man who will be missed.

The family requests no food please!

In lieu of flowers may be made to: Ashe County Humane Society, PO Box 1776, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
