To the Editor:

I was elated to read of our County Commissioner’s moratorium on the erection of more billboards. Apparently, they are as horrified by the sudden surge in the ugly monsters as many others in our County are. I encourage them to do what they can to protect what is left of the natural beauty of our mountains. If they can stop further desecration of our landscape, that would be progress. If they could eliminate the present billboards over the next 25 years, at least future generations would benefit.

There are many places which depend on tourism and second-home purchase and construction that have stringent laws in place that limit the size and location of billboards, Having the laws in place has strengthened their economies and contributed to the enjoyment of the people who live there and the people who visit there. I am optimistic that a similar attitude will prevail here.
