Volunteers are busy making last minute calls and preparations for the Ashe County Free Medical Clinic’s annual signature event of a Brunch, Style Show and Tour of Homes scheduled for this Saturday at the Ashe County High School. With a goal of $20,000 in contributions necessary to obtain the full matching grant of $20,000 from Blue Cross BlueShield NC, the potential of turning every donor’s one dollar in to two dollars is motivating caring partners to step forward in the mission of serving the medically uninsured who live or work in Ashe County.

Volunteer cooks from across the county will arrive at 9 a.m. with delicacies they have prepared for the brunch that begins at 10. A few of the recipes that will be available for both sampling and taking home with you include Whipping Cream Pound Cake, Raspberry White Chocolate Dream, Cucumber Shrimp Spread, and Phyllo Crab Cups. During the brunch, Andrea Spears will entertain the guests with holiday music.

The silent auction also begins at 10 a.m., with all the items available for bids until the closing of bids at 1:30 p.m. Silent auction items include hand-quilted and knitted items as well as donations from local business including art work, holiday decorations, gift baskets, services and a 1999 Cadillac. Volunteers are decorating fresh Fraser Fir wreaths to help you complete your own home Christmas decorations with winning bids. Local florists and individuals are creating centerpieces and decorations for each of the brunch tables that are also part of the Silent Auction.

At noon, following introductions, Andrea Spears and the Ashe High School Show Choir will present a special program of Christmas music.

Libby Cockerham of Libby’s will present her beautiful models as they are accompanied by the famous lady’s quartet
