Brucie Mae Shatley Miller, age 92, of Jefferson, NC, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Segraves Care Center in Jefferson. Mrs. Miller was born May 16, 1915 in Ashe County to the late Winfield Scott Shatley and Effie Jane Marsh Shatley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Howard Miller; a son, Roy Lee Miller; six sisters, Lula Barker, Lola Miller, Vester Pennington, Kathleen Testerman, Beatrice Miller, Verna Church and also three sisters who died in infancy; one brother, Grant Shatley. Mrs. Miller was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, hand knitting rugs, cooking and was an avid reader. She made sure all of her grandchildren were taken care of and believed strongly in them getting an education.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 16, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Rev. Lloyd Day officiated. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Sunday prior to the funeral service at Ashelawn. The family respectfully requests no food or flowers please. Mrs. Miller is survived by a son, Harold Dean Miller of Jefferson, NC.; a daughter: Colleen Campbell of Jefferson, NC; and a sister, Maude Little of Langhorne, Pa. Also surviving are five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
