Local wrestlers finish strong at USA Junior High State Wrestling Championship

On Saturday, February 9, wrestlers from Ashe County traveled to Winston-Salem to compete in the USA Junior High State Wrestling Championship. The tournament was held at LJVM Coliseum and hosted over 800 wrestlers from across the state.

Six representatives of Ashe placed in the top five for their age group, five of which placed in the top three, and three won their weight class per their age division. Claiming first was Lucas Miller, William Miller, and Josh Wineberg. Lucas Miller placed first in the 7th grade 114 weight class, William Miller won the 121 weight class for 7th grade, and Josh Wineberg also grabbed first in his weight class, the 173 weight class for 8th grade. Justin St. Germain finished strong in the 76 pound weight class as he placed second for 6th grade, Dylan Lewis placed third in the 127 weight class for 7th grade, and Jake St. Germain placed fifth in the 96 pound weight class for 6th grade. Congratulations to these wrestlers!
