A Grassy Creek man has been charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a misdemeanor offense, along with felony worthless check charges.

According to a warrant obtained through Ashe County Superior Court’s Clerk of Court Office, John S. Chefas, 67, allegedly entered into an agreement with Tim Moser of Fox Creek Farms in which he agreed to purchase and pay for Christmas trees by Jan. 15, 2007. The warrant also states that Chefas willfully and feloniously attempted to cheat and defraud Moser of said Christmas trees. Chefas has allegedly neglected to pay the full contract price, according to the warrant issued in March of 2007

A warrant for Chefas was served on March 8, 2007 and probable cause for a trial was found on April 26, 2007 by the district court.

Chefas’ case was originally scheduled to be heard on July 14 but since then a motion of continuance was granted to move the trial to Oct. 6 of this year.
