The Lady Huskies tennis team, along with the Huskies volleyball teams traveled to Elkin last Thursday for their final scrimmages of the season. The tennis team looked to improve on their play from the previous scrimmage, along with the volleyball team.

The volleyball team traveled to Alleghany on Wednesday of last week, and dropped a tough 3-0 match to the Trojans in their first match experience of the season. However, the Huskies brought away some positives, as Coach Laura Foster was pleased with the ladies efforts.

“Alleghany is a tough team,” Foster commented. Foster continued to elaborate on their travel team that allows them to play volleyball year round.

On the other nets, the tennis team was looking to work out their excessive unforced errors from their first scrimmage. The Huskies faced tough teams from Mt. Tabor and East Wilkes last Tuesday, then used the scrimmage at Elkin last Thursday to fine tune their play prior to beginning the season Monday evening with a home match against Watauga. Tennis opens up conference play this evening by hosting the Starmount Rams, marking the first conference play of the 2008-09 school year.

The Huskies volleyball team has their first match of the regular season tonight when they are on the road at Alexander. This is a non-conference match for the Huskies, with the JV starting play at 4:30 and varsity following.
