After closing the season out with a road victory over North Wilkes High School to claim the fourth seed in the MVAC tournament, the Huskies were awarded a first round home match in the MVAC tournament. The fourth seeded Huskies hosted the fifth seeded Vikings in a rematch of a heated battle that occurred less than a week before. Ashe was able to sweep games two, three, and four, to end the Vikings run in the MVAC Tournament with a 4-1 victory.

After losing game one by a score of 25-18, Ashe recharged between games and came out to a close, but momentum building 25-23 victory. Caitlin Elliott closed the game for the Huskies with two kills to give them their 24th and 25th points of the game to win 25-23.

In game three, Ashe took the momentum built in game two to stay even with the Vikings. North Wilkes pulled ahead early, 7-1, but Ashe battled back and tied the score at 10-10. Ashe would then slowly pull away from the Vikings as they gained a 18-14 lead, at which point the Vikings coach called a timeout to talk things over with her team.

Ashe exited the time out and maintained their lead to the final point of the game, in which they won 25-19 to pull ahead two games to one.

Game four was the defining moment for the Vikings, win and force a game five, lose, go home and pray for a wildcard berth into the NCHSAA Playoffs. The Huskies were hoping for the second situation, and after another hard fought game by both teams, Ashe had the final advantage winning the game, 25-20, ending the match with Ashe winning three games to one. The game was even, opening up with an 11-10 score in favor of Ashe. A kill by Caitlin Elliott gave the Huskies a slight 12-10 lead, and then Ashe pulled ahead 18-15. North Wilkes would never get within two points of Ashe, and Ashe pulled away to win game four 25-20.

The victory for Ashe advanced them to the semi-finals of the MVAC Tournament, which also secured the Huskies automatic bid into the NCHSAA Playoffs, which begin Saturday. In the semi-finals, Ashe had a tough pairing with the Starmount Rams on Wednesday evening. The Rams entered the conference tournament seeded first after a 17-6 season. Starmount handed the Huskies a 3-0 loss to advance the Rams to the finals where they met the North Surry Greyhounds on Wednesday evening. North Surry moved on to the finals with a victory over Forbush.

The NCHSAA Playoff Brackets will be released later this week, once all the conferences have submitted their information to the NCHSAA. Brackets can be viewed at www.NCHSAA.org.
