In the battle of number-one seeds, North Wilkes earned its only victory of the night as Dean Osborne defeated Zach Richardson in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Zeb Richardson got the Huskies’ first victory, defeating Lance Adams by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Third seeded Jacob Hamilton defeated Logan Hall 6-1, 6-1 and Sam Bowers also earned a singles victory for Ashe, beating Patrick Jackson 6-1, 6-4. Five-seed Will Church and six-seed Josh Meghoo picked up wins as well for Ashe.
In doubles action, Ashe swept all three matches as the Richardson brothers defeated Osborne and Adams 8-6, Hamilton and Bowers beat Hall and Jackson 8-3, and Church and Meghoo also scored a, 8-6 win to cap off the big winning night for the Husky tennis team.
Soccer
The Lady Husky soccer team had its home opener last Tuesday, facing off against North Wilkes. Ashe picked up its fourth win of the season by defeating the Lady Vikings 4-0.
Aspen Domske scored two goals in the first half while Haley Maloney added a goal to give the Lady Huskies a 3-0 lead at halftime.
It was all defense in the second half until McKenzie Domske added the fourth and final goal late in the game to seal the victory.
Ashe now sits at 4-2 overall and 4-1 in Mountain Valley Conference action. Up next on the schedule, the soccer team hosts its first non-conference game of the year as Avery comes to town this Friday.
Baseball
Ashe played on its home field for the first time all season, and also picked up its first win of the year in the process.
Junior Sam Gammons pitched a complete game as the Huskies defeated the North Wilkes Vikings by a final score of 6-4. The Huskies are now 1-7 overall and 1-6 in MVAC games.
The Huskies hit the road yet again for a non-conference battle against North Surry on Thursday, then are on the road again for a conference matchup against West Wilkes next Tuesday.
