The Lady Husky soccer team has hit its stride at the right point of the season, taking sole possession of second place in the conference after two big wins last week, including a victory over rival Wilkes Central.

On Wednesday, the ladies took the field to make up a game from last week, postponed due to the weather. The match would be for the outright possession of second place in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference as the Lady Huskies were set to battle the Wilkes Central Eagles.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game, Ashe responded with a goal by Perla Reyes to knot the score up at 1-1. Ashe got two more goals in the match, both of them coming from Aspen Domske. Wilkes Central could only get one more into the net as Ashe claimed its biggest win of the year against a good team and staked claim to a big rival victory.

On Friday, the Lady Huskies were hoping to avoid a letdown after its big win earlier in the week as they faced a challenge from the Alleghany Trojans. In a game where both teams were held scoreless for 75 minutes, a late goal by MacKenzie Domske was all the scoring that the Lady Huskies needed as they held on for the 1-0 shutout victory.

The soccer team returns to action this week, hoping to avenge an earlier season loss to Elkin when they face the Bucking Elks on Tuesday. Ashe closes out the week on the road at North Wilkes.
