Over 50 athletes took part in the 2011 tennis camp held at Ashe County High School last week. Kids of all ages as well as adults took part in the four-day camp.

Professionals from the Deer Valley Racquet Club in Boone, led by club pro Aaron Peterson, spent over three hours each day teaching these young athletes more and more about the game of tennis.

The youngest athletes experienced tennis for the first time on the court as instructors helped them learn about the hand-eye coordination that it takes to hit the ball. Others were instructed on how to take their game to the next level, learning the proper ways to return shots as well as perfecting their forehand and backhand shots and serving abilities. Athletes were also taught about proper footwork techniques to help keep their balance on the court.

More experienced players got the chance to put their skills to the test against others around them, serving and returning shots as they would in a tennis match.
