Mr. Gambill was born on Aug. 20, 1925 in Ashe County to Lew and Lois Sturgill Gambill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Gambill; two brothers, Maynard and Thomas Gambill; and two sisters, Lorraine Cummings and Mildred Atwood Blevins.
Mr. Gambill served in Korea in the Army and Merchant Marines. He loved spending time with his family, golfing, fishing and grilling. He played the fiddle and jews harp. He and his brother Maynard spent many hours riding through Chestnut Hill.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 17, at 2:30 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Steve Witherspoon. Burial followed in Jefferson Cemetery with military rites. The family received friends from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Gambill is survived by: his wife, Betty Miller Gambill; four sons, Joseph Gambill and George Gambill and wife, Carrie, all of West Jefferson, Daniel Gambill and wife, Debbie, of Fleetwood and Mark Gambill of Lombard, Ill.; two daughters, Lori Trent and husband, Will, of West Jefferson and Pam Gambill of Chicago, Ill.; special sister-in-law, Ruth Gambill; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or Margate Health & Rehab Center.
