Registration for the 2011 Ashe County Youth Football League, as well as the first day of practice begins this Wednesday and will last through Saturday for those in grades first through sixth that are interested in playing football.

Sign-ups will be at the Beaver Creek industrial site fields near where the old high school used to be.

Players will practice from Wednesday through Saturday, then teams will be determined.

All interested players should come with a parent or guardian to register and practice, and wear shorts, tee-shirt, tennis shoes or football cleats.

The registration fee for the league this year is $85, and must be paid no later than Saturday, Aug. 13 when equipment is handed out to the players.

Each player in the league will receive an Appalachian State Mountaineer football jersey, football pants, along with other ASU memorabilia.

For the second consecutive year, teams will also get to play at least one game at Kidd-Brewer Stadium on the campus of ASU.

As a reminder, the signups for first and second graders will be limited to the first 25 that sign up and pay the league fee.

Registration forms can be picked up here at the Jefferson Post.
