Ashe County will remember the nation’s fallen heroes and innocent victims who died as a result of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and will pay tribute to the county’s own heroes, in a special ceremony Sunday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. at Ashe Civic Center in West Jefferson.

Organized by the Ashe County Honor Guard, the program on this 10th anniversary of 9/11 will feature music from vocalists, a bagpipe player and others, prayers, addresses by local officials, and a special video presentation in the auditorium of the civic center. The public is invited to attend.

Tribute will be given to the county’s emergency responders, law enforcement and National Guard unit among others.

“We want people to know when they leave exactly why they were here,” said Tim Winters with the Ashe County Honor Guard and county emergency medical responders.
