Southern States Cooperative, Inc. West Jefferson Service will hold their annual membership meeting on Friday, Oct. 7, at 112 Sunnyside Park, Jefferson. Membership day activities include lunch with the business meeting to follow at 1 p.m.
The cooperatives management will use the meeting to report on both local and company-wide operations, as well as projected budget results for next year. Local board members will be elected and retiring board members will be recognized.
Board nominees include Jessie Davis, William R. Little, Kenneth Richardson and Joseph G. Stansberry. District G Election Delegate nominees include Bobby Absher and Charles L. King.
Grand opening of their new location at Sunnyside Park in Jefferson continues through Saturday with door prizes given away hourly along with a $250 Southern States gift card on Friday and a Heritage gun safe on Saturday. Hours on Friday are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cattlemens Assoc. to meet
Ashe County Cattlemens Association will meet on Monday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at Ashe Family Central in Jefferson. Membership fee is $25 for the year ($8 guest meal). Please RSVP by Friday, Oct. 7 at 846-5850 so there will be adequate materials, seating and meals available.
The associations board of directors will meet at 6 p.m. on Oct. 10 prior to the associational meeting.
Bee Keepers plan meeting
Ashe Bee Keepers will meet on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Agricultural Service Center conference room in Jefferson.

Farm Bureau annual meeting
Ashe County Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting on Monday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m., at Jefferson United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall. For a reservation, contact the county office before Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 246-8828. Food and entertainment will be provided for members with the donation of three cans of non-perishable food for a local assistance center.
FSA announces loan limit increases
Ashe/Alleghany County Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced the lending limit for Guaranteed Loans has been increased to $1,214,000, effective Oct.1.
The lending limit increases every year according to an inflation index. The maximum combined guaranteed and direct farm loan indebtedness has also been increased to $1,514,000.
Ashe and Alleghany County producers and farmers are reminded that the one-time loan origination fee charged on FSA guaranteed Farm Ownership and Operating loans has increased. The increase, from 1 percent to 1.5 percent of the guaranteed portion of the loan, is for loans obligated after Oct. 1.
