Mrs. Severt was born on May 5, 1925 in Ashe County. Mrs. Severt was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Effie Mae McNeill and Howard South; two brothers, William South and Dean South; and husband, Albert Lawrence Severt on March 7, 2010. Mrs. Severt was a member of Riverview Primitive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Severt is survived by one daughter, Wilma Severt Brinegar of Fleetwood; one son, John Neal Severt of West Jefferson; three brothers, Dennis Bower South of Deep Gap, Wayne South and wife, Myrtle, of Jefferson, Danny Howell South and wife, Carol, of Newland; one sister, Wanda Austin of West Jefferson; three grandchildren, Philip Brinegar and wife, Cheryl, of Lenoir, Jeffery Brinegar and wife of Weaverville, Christopher Brinegar of Boone; two great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and great nephews.
The family received friends from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, Jan. 9, at Badger Funeral Home. Graveside services followed at Mountlawn Memorial Park in Boone by Elder Eddie Lyle and Elder James McNeill.
Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to The Rollins Center c/o Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645. The family also respectfully requests no food please.
