Ruby Roten Stanley, age 92, of North Wilkesboro, formerly of Ashe County, died Friday afternoon, Jan. 16, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rex Eldreth, the Rev. Mike Church, the Rev. Shannon Critcher and the Rev. Gary Stanley officiating. Burial followed in the Stanley Cemetery in Warrensville. The body lay in state on Monday from 12 until 1 p.m., one hour prior to the funeral service.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, Jan. 18, at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stanley was born in Ashe County on Sunday, Nov. 12, 1916 to the late William “W.M.” and Maude Farmer Roten. Ruby was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Stanley; a daughter, Pauline McKinney; and five brothers, Rob, Frank, James, Walt and Henry Roten.
Mrs. Stanley is survived by three sons, Clifford Stanley and wife, Loretta, of North Wilkesboro, Neil Stanley and wife, Melba, of Chesterfield, SC, Daymon Stanley and wife, Janet, of Warrensville; two daughters, Mary Lou Puperi and husband, Jim, of North Canton, OH, Sandi Garcia and husband, Alex, of Hickory; a sister, Irene Miller and husband, Wayne, of North Wilkesboro; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
