Mr. Barker was born in Ashe County on Thursday, Sept. 6, 1951 to the late Raymond Lee and Lillian Francis Barker. He served in the United States Coast Guard. He retired from Lowe’s Hardware. Lee loved his horses and going camping. He was also an avid Duke fan.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Barker.
Mr. Barker is survived by his wife, Sharon Eller Barker; three daughters, Melissa McCoy and husband, Randy, of North Wilkesboro, LeAnne Bowman and husband, Jeremy, of Lansing and Stephanie Barker, of Jefferson; two sons, Joe Barker and Allen Barker, both of Jefferson; a brother, Steve Barker of West Jefferson; two sisters, Linda Bare of Ennice and Dee Barker of West Jefferson; five grandchildren, Brendon McCoy, Addison McCoy, Leah Severt, Reece Severt and Brooke Vannoy; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8, at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Jones and the Rev. Johnny Blevins officiating. Burial followed in the Howell Hill Cemetery with military rites.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, at Boone Family Funeral Home.
