The victim's identity and cause of death has not been released.
According to Ashe County Sheriff James Williams, when law enforcement officials arrived at the home on N.C. 88 in Creston at approximately 6 p.m., they discovered the man's body.
Because of the condition of the man's body, investigators took precautions in the event his death was caused by chemical burns.
As a result, emergency workers were seen entering and exiting the home wearing hazmat protective gear.
However, Ashe County Sheriff Williams said that at this point in the investigation, foul play is not suspected.
The man's body was taken to Chapel Hill where a full autopsy will be performed.
