Mr. Hoy Curtis Elledge of Doncaster Drive, North Wilkesboro, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at Wilkes Senior Village. He was 89.

Mr. Elledge was born May 28, 1923 in McDowell County, W.Va., to James Blaine and Mary Jane Burchette Elledge. Before retiring after 37 years, he was a foreman in the cutting department at Carolina Mirror Company. Mr. Elledge served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Scott, Cletis Mays, Lillian Smith; and two brothers, Glenn Elledge and Billy Ray Elledge.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dare Roope Elledge of the home; one son, John Elledge and wife, Marcia, of Crumpler; two sisters, Ida “Jackie” Smith of Columbia, S.C., Juanita “Nikki” Crawford of Statesville; three grandchildren, Kathryn Elledge Johnson, Kristen LaCole Elledge, Jonathan Curtis Elledge; and one great-granddaughter, Drew Collins Johnson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. John C. Elledge and the Rev. Keith Elledge officiating. Burial with military rites by Post #1142 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard followed in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family received friends 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
