A Boone teenager was killed last night when the pickup truck he was riding in left the roadway, and rolled on Meat Camp Road near Elk Knob State Park.

Sixteen-year old Dillon Luther Critcher, of Deerfield Road in Boone, was riding in the bed of a 1998 Ford pickup truck with another individual when the accident occurred. At approximately 10:40 p.m., the truck left the roadway, lost control in a culvert and rolled.

Critcher, and the other individual in the truck bed, sustained injuries severe enough to be transported to Johnson City Medical Center by Wings Air Rescue where Critcher was pronounced dead, according to NC State Trooper Jeff Womack.

Three other individuals in the pickup truck were transported to Watauga Medical Center for treatment.

As of early Friday morning, Trooper Womack had not received an update on the medical status of the other four individuals.

The Jefferson Post will update as more details, including the collision report, become available.
