From true antiques to items artfully made to look antique, a new store in downtown West Jefferson is a treasure of past and present.

Past & Present Antiques at 113 N. Jefferson Avenue opened in May allowing mostly local vendors to display and sell their “old and new” antiques in individual spaces. Owners Pam and Glen Moreo wanted to offer people just such an opportunity.

“We're doing the old versus the new,” said Pam. “Some vendors have antiques. Some have revamped antiques. Use your imagination, and it all kind of flows together.”

Residents of the Creston area the past seven years, Pam and Glen Moreo have a renovation/remodeling business for bathrooms, Classic Designers, and wanted to expand a bit.

“I've always wanted to do antiques,” Pam said. “I decided it was now or never, and then I found this place and it just all came together.”

They lease spaces to vendors and have enjoyed a great response.

“We've had such a good response from customers and the local store owners as well,” Pam said. “People come in and tell me what something was used for, and you learn something every day. That's exciting.”

Her vendors are excited as well.

“I am ecstatic,” said Cookie Parker, who shares a space with her daughter Jamie Snuffer: Parker's Parcel and Two Rainbow Road. “It's doing well,” she said of the sales of their items. “And it's set up so well. Everything here has such eye appeal.”

Pam said she wanted to always have her store neat, clean and uncluttered. The rustic décor compliments the antiques of yesterday and today.

“I'm pleased,” said vendor Cindy Burns. “I've sold several things. I saw an ad and found this place, and it's been great.” She had a posting on YouTube of her booth space.

Cookie Parker said she had never had a booth to sell things before. “I just decided I had a lot of stuff and it was a good way to get it out from under the bed,” she said. “Now I go to yard sales and hunt for stuff. I am the hunter.”

Just wandering through the store and visiting all the booth spaces can be a treasure hunt.

“People come in and walk around and reminisce about things their grandmother used. And it's just so delightful,” said Pam. “I enjoy it whether they buy or not. And they tell me things about the items.”

Pam and Glen currently have nine vendors, some with double spaces, and two consignment spaces. They charge rent for the spaces but take no commission from sales.

The store is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Call 846-3311 for information.
