Future Lady Huskies took part in last week’s “Girls Got Game” basketball camp at Ashe County High School, directed by head coach Laura Foster as well as assistant coaches and several current and former players.
Awards for the top performers in different competitions were handed out on Thursday.
The first grade dribbling champion was Madison Lee, followed by runner-up Loren Shimen. Second graders also had a dribbling competition, and the top spot went to Kirland Hudler, just ahead of second place Taylon Miller.
Third graders competed in two different competitions. The X-Out layup drill winner was Jordan Jones and runner-up was Jayden Jones. The third grade free throw shooting champ was Weatherly Reeves, ahead of second place Jordan Jones.
Up next, fourth graders competed in the same two competitions. Audrey Craven won the X-Out layup competition, just ahead of Allyson Greer, who finished second place. Allyson went on to win the free throw competition while Audrey finished in second.
All fifth and sixth graders competed in three different events. Abby Sullivan was the winner of the Hot Shot competition while the runner-up was Allie South. The free throw shooting champ was Hallie Treva and second place was Shelby Welborn. Allie South took the top spot in the one-on-one competition while Hallie Treva was the runner up.
In seventh and eighth grade competitions, Brooklyn Sheets finished first place in the Hot Shot event while Amber Miller placed second. Amanda Gambill was crowned as the free throw champion, and also took second place in the one-on-one tournament. Sydney Grubb took first place in one-on-one and second place in free throw shooting.
“I would like to thank the parents and players for choosing the Girls Got Game basketball camp,” said Coach Foster. “I would also like to thank my coaching staff, current and former players for their hard work in making Girls Got Game a success.”
