Ruth Gladys Brown Roark

Mrs. Ruth Gladys Brown Roark of Creston died on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at her residence. She was 88.

Mrs. Roark was born on Sept. 25, 1923 in Ashe County to Wilson F. and Maggie Roten Roark. Mrs. Roark was preceded in death by her parents, husband, French Roark, and brothers, Bill Brown and Joe Brown.

Mrs. Roark loved to garden, read, and spend time in the outdoors. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Roark is survived by one son, Gary Roark of Statesville; two daughters, Margaret Holman and Ruby Lewis, both of Creston; one brother, George Brown of Graham; one sister, Ruby Osborne of West Jefferson; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Badger Funeral Home by the Rev. Tommy Dollar. Burial followed in Brown Cemetery.

The family received friends from 3-4 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
