Jeremy Koling continued to dominate the competition at the High Country Disc Golf Championship, winning his fifth straight championship at the event. Koling has taken the top spot in the Professional Division each year that the tournament has been held.
The Charlotte resident finished the two-day tournament 25 shots under par, good enough for a 12-shot victory over second place Matt Keats. Third place went to Charlie Natii of North Wilkesboro (12-under par), fourth place was Henry Childress (10-under par) and fifth place went to Zachary Newhouse and Todd Lion, who both finished six shots under par.
The High Country Disc Golf Championships marked the fifth victory of the season for Koling in Professional Disc Golf Association tournaments.
In the Master’s Division, Jerry Harmon of Tennessee took first place with a score of seven under par, just one shot ahead of second place Alan Beaver of South Carolina.
Three players finished below par in the Advanced Division. Walter Murray from Hickory finished at three-under and captured the top spot. David Gebhardt (Concord) and Harrison Lerario (Boone) both finished tied for second at two-under.
Three Ashe County residents played well in the Intermediate Division. Een Shepherd finished in second place with a score of two over par. Chris Hamby took seventh while Ricky Roten finished in ninth place.
One competitor had the shot of the tournament that earned him a nice prize of $178. Lance Mclean of Wilkesboro nailed a hole-in-one on the 10th hole with a perfect shot. Mclean went on to finish 16th in the Intermediate Division.
