June Neaves, of Crumpler, was traveling north on 16 in a Buick Rendezvous at approximately 3:35 p.m. Thursday when she was struck by Michael Colson, of Indian Trail, nearly head-on, according to North Carolina State Trooper Will Miller.
"Colson was coming south on 221, lost control, traveled completely off the road on the right," said Miller. "He pulled it back on, crossed the center-line, and struck Ms. Neaves pretty close to head-on."
Neaves was pinned in the vehicle when emergency personnel arrived, and was later transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital by Blue Ridge Medical Transport.
Colson was cut by glass during the collision, according to Miller, but was not transported from the scene.
The wreck occurred at 1836 16N in Jefferson, near Grady Precision Cartridge.
"I heard tires squealing and big smack sound," said Owner of Grady Precision Cartridge Ansen Grady. "I went out to look and saw that nasty wreck."
North Carolina State Troopers, the Ashe County Sheriffs Office, Ashe County Rescue Squad, Blue Ridge Medical Transport, and Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the call.
