Virginia Dare Lemly

Virginia Dare Gentry Lemly of Bel Air, Md., passed away on July 11, 2012 at her home. She was 88.

Born in Todd, she was the daughter of the late Charles Welburn and Minnie Virginia Wilcox Gentry and wife of the late William Townley Lemly who she married in 1943. A resident of Harford County since 1946, she worked for Harford County Public Schools as a cafeteria worker at Bel Air Middle School. She was a dedicated and devout Christian, and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed arts and crafts, crocheting, reading, gardening, flowers, bird watching and painting. She liked spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Guy Compton; four brothers, Tom, Ambrose, Weaver and Perry Gentry; and three sisters, Mary Opal Houck, Ella V. Hudler and C. Wavie Gentry.

Mrs. Lemly is survived by her son, Barry Lemly and wife, Cherry, of Dublin, Md.; daughters, Karen Lemly Compton of Williamsburg, Va., and Sharon Lemly Dalton and husband, Patrick, of Delta Junction, Alaska; 12 grandchildren, Keri Compton Hall, Ssgt. Michael Compton, USMC, Joshua and Justin Lemly, and Gabriel, Zefforah, Grace, Hannah, Noah, Faith, Micah, and Malachi Dalton; and great-grandson, Christopher Linden Compton.

Visitation was held at McComas Funeral Home, P.A. in Bel Air, Md., 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 13, and at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Bel Air, Md., 10-11 a.m. Saturday, July 14. Services were held at the church at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Kenneth E. Tipton, the Rev. Harold L. Hubble and Dr. David A. Hall officiating. Interment was at Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air, Md.

Pallbearers were Joshua and Justin Lemly, Michael Compton, Jason Hall, John Houck, and Larry Gentry.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2106 Churchville Road, Bel Air, MD 21015.
