Harold Lloyd Kluttz, Sr.

Mr. Harold Lloyd Kluttz, Sr., of Jefferson passed away Saturday night, Aug. 4, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem. He was 84.

Mr. Kluttz was born in Rowan County on Sept. 2, 1927 to the late Roy Kluttz, Sr. and Hazel Glover Kluttz. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, attended Catawba College and worked for Armour Foods Company in Charlotte for 43 years. After retiring as plant manager and relocating to Jefferson, he opened Ashe Athletics Sporting Goods store in downtown West Jefferson. He was an active member of Ashe County Shrine Club, the Masonic Lodge, Oasis Shrine Temple as an Ambassador, the Royal Order of Jesters, Charlotte Court 109 and the American Legion Post 275 in Lansing. He actively attended Nathans Creek United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Kluttz, Sr. and Hazel Glover Kluttz; and a brother, Roy Kluttz, Jr.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Cope Kluttz; three sons, Harold Lloyd Kluttz, Jr., and wife, Margie, of Lincolnton, Craig Cope Kluttz and wife, Susan, of Gastonia/Indian Trail, and Glenn Reeves Kluttz and wife, Vickie, of Jefferson; one sister, Donna Jarrett and husband, James, of Newton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Boone Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Rob Brooks and the Rev. Brandon Martin officiating. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens and services concluded with a gathering of family and friends at Ashe Shrine Club, 117 Morphew Lane, Jefferson.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Boone Family Funeral Home.
