The Jefferson Post welcomes Ashe County native James Howell as staff writer.
Howell will be covering local events, county government and education among his reporting duties. He joined the Post on Aug. 6.
After graduating from Ashe County High School in 2008, he was accepted into Appalachian State University where he earned a degree in communications studies. After some deliberation, Howell said he decided to join the work force rather than pursue a masters degree at this time.
When asked about his first week on the job, Howell said, “Everyone here has really helped me get settled in, and I’m looking forward to working with them to make the Jefferson Post the best newspaper it can be.”
“We are very happy to have James on staff,” said Assistant Editor Linda Burchette. “We believe he will bring a fresh perspective to the writing staff and coverage of local news.”
Besides keeping up with the news, Howell is an avid basketball fan, loves snowboarding and especially enjoys watching horse racing.
