The Lady Husky volleyball team lost two non-conference matchups last week, as well as its first Mountain Valley Conference game of the season.

Avery and Watauga were both 3-0 winners over Ashe, putting an end to the non-conference portion of the schedule.

“I wanted us to play teams that would challenge us non-conference, so that we would be able to see what areas we need to focus on,” said head coach Lindsey Williams.

With three games in three days, going into the Elkin game, the team had not had any practice after falling in the first two games of the week.

“I think going into our third game against Elkin, we were getting tired and had not had any practice time to work on some techniques like blocking and hard hitting, that we really needed to capitalize on to beat Elkin,” said Coach Williams.

Elkin took care of business on its home court, beating the Lady Huskies three games to zero.

Taking an 0-5 record into MVAC play wasn’t exactly what the team had in mind, but there are still plenty of games left to improve on, and plenty of time to get the players healthy.

“We have battled with our line up due to injuries and a small roster, and are struggling offensively,” said Coach Williams. “We just need to continue working and getting players used to new positions. Our team has set goals and we are going to continue working towards them.”

Abby Lopp currently leads the team in kills while Cierra Sawyer has the best serve percentage on the team. Zoe Richardson leads the way in assists, and Sloan Elliott leads all Lady Husky players in digs.
