A pair of wins last week continued an impressive winning streak for the Ashe County soccer team, giving the Huskies 12 wins in a row.
The team has not lost since the opening day of the season, a 2-1 defeat at home to Watauga.
Ashe 9, East Wilkes 2
Play started last week with a win over East Wilkes.
Cesar Ruiz got the scoring started in just the second minute of play with a quick goal. Miguel Ramos put Ashe in front 2-0 with a goal in the fifth minute, followed quickly be a score from Frank Ledezma in the eighth minute.
Scoring settled down until the 27th minute when senior Anthony Federico found the back of the net with a shot.
The Huskies would go on to score three more goals in the first half to take a 7-0 lead. William Miller had a penalty kick goal, followed by Ruiz capping off a hat trick with goals in the 32nd and 34th minutes.
Second half play began with a pair of goals from East Wilkes to trim its deficit to five goals at 7-2.
Ashe put the game away with a goal from Ledezma in the 59th minute, then a penalty kick goal from Lucas Hamm in the 76th minute.
Ashe 4, Wilkes Central 0
The Huskies played the very next day against another conference foe, this time rival Wilkes Central made the trip up the mountain.
Early on, both defenses were up to the task of stopping its opponents. Braxton Treadway made three saves in the first 15 minutes on shots from Central strikers. For Ashe, Ruiz and Alexis Ramos each had good scoring opportunities stopped by the Eagle goalkeeper.
Ashe finally broke through in the 20th minute with a goal from Ruiz on a terrific pass from Federico to earn the assist.
In the 26th minute, Jamie Weaver netted a goal on a nice header off of a crossing pass from Alex Church. The score would remain 2-0 after the first 40 minutes of play.
Ashe started the second half scoring with a goal from Ledezma in the 50th minute. Federico picked up his second assist of the game.
The final Ashe tally came in the 68th minute. Hamm booted a shot by the Eagle keeper off of a pass from Ledezma.
The Huskies moved to 12-1 overall and remained perfect in Mountain Valley Conference play with a record of 7-0.
With half of the conference season over, Ashe will start through the second half of MVAC play. The Huskies hosted Elkin on Monday evening, and will travel to Starmount on Thursday.
