With a pair of decisive victories in the standings the past two weeks, the Appalachian State Mountaineers will look for its third straight win this Saturday at Kidd-Brewer Stadium.

This weekend also marks Homecoming Weekend on the schedule as former players, alumni, and fans will pack The Rock for this Southern Conference showdown with the Elon Phoenix.

The Mountaineers are coming off of a blowout win over non-conference foe Coastal Carolina. App took down Coastal 55-14 behind four touchdowns from Jamal Jackson and a career-high 202 rushing yards from Steven Miller.

Freshman Sean Price had a big day catching passes from Jackson as he reeled in eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Elon has struggled so far this season, posting a record of 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the Southern Conference. The Phoenix lost a close one to Georgia Southern two weeks ago, falling 26-23, but turned around and got demolished by Wofford, losing 49-24. Elon allowed Boone native Eric Breitenstein run for a SoCon record 321 yards in the game.

The Phoenix will be led by one of the top wide receivers in the Football Championship Subdivision. Aaron Mellette caught 13 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns against the SoCon-leading Terriers last week. So far, Mellette has caught 37 passes for 423 yards and seven touchdowns.

Thomas Wilson guides the Phoenix passing attack. The senior has completed 63 percent of his passes for 1,162 yards, 10 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

Taking some pressure off the passing attack will be a trio of halfbacks that have gotten the bulk of the carries so far in 2012. Karl Bostick leads the way with 57 carries for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Thuc Phan has added 37 carries for 139 yards while Tracey Coppedge has carried the ball 48 times for 129 yards and one touchdown.

Elon’s problem all season long has been its defense. They allow 33 points per game to its opponents, which ranks the squad 89th in the FCS out of 121 teams, and next to last in the Southern Conference. Only Western Carolina has allowed more points to its opponents.

Kickoff for this year’s Homecoming game is set for 3:30 p.m.
