The Ashe County Sharing Center received a $3,000 donation from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation Thursday afternoon.
“We are grateful to Food Lion for this generous gift because it will help us continue to provide nutritious food for families, who most of the time, do not know where their next meal is coming from,” said Steve Murphree, the board chairman of the sharing center.
The Ashe County Sharing Center has been providing food and clothing since 1983 to needy families in Ashe County, according to a press release sent by Murphree.
The same press release said the Food Lion Charitable Foundation was established in 2001, and provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the community it serves.
According to the press release, the donation will be used to purchase food items from local grocers that are not available from the food bank.
