Fall sports seasons are slowly coming to an end, including football as this Friday will be the final home game of the regular season. Ashe will honor its senior players and cheerleaders before the game against the Forbush Falcons.
Eli Gambill, Brandon Carpenter, Justin Scarborough, Kolten Pilar, Cameron Guyton, Parker Dunne, Matthew Caudill, Irie Hall, Jake Woods, Avery Blevins, Carson Knight, Dominic Maxwell and Hawkens Flanagan will all the seniors on this year’s football team.
Ashe will hope to end the year on a high note with this game and next week’s matchup at East Wilkes. Both games will have a lot on the line for the Huskies. Ashe will try to extend its playoff streak to 10 straight years.
Forbush just picked up its first win of the year last week against East Wilkes. The Falcons dominated for much of the game and captured a 34-20 win.
Ashe will put last week’s 47-14 loss behind them and focus on getting a win over a team that has struggled for most of the year. Last week was only the second time all year that the Falcons scored more than seven points in a single game.
Forbush played North Surry very close in the first game of the season, losing 20-14. Since then, Forbush had struggled with every team they had played until last week. Starmount shut out the Falcons, 49-0, North Wilkes beat them 35-3 and Wilkes Central handed them another big loss, winning 41-3.
Bennett Winslow will be Forbush’s starting quarterback. The junior started 11 games last season and has been the man so far this year. Jordan Sawyers and Travis Holden are responsible for most of the rushing attack in the backfield, while G.C. Parks and Matthew Stanley are the top receiving targets for the quarterback.
Last year, Ashe won a low-scoring battle at Forbush, 16-11. Sam Gammons tossed two touchdown passes, and Dominic Maxwell blocked a punt that went through the end zone for a safety. The last time both teams played in Ashe, the Falcons came out on top with a 27-14 win two years ago.
Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
