Hundreds of Ashe County residents made the grand opening of the Tractor Supply Company's new Jefferson location a big event on Saturday, Nov. 10.

According to Store Manager Drew Murphy, the store officially opened for business Nov. 3 and held a ribbon cutting ceremony with the local Chamber of Commerce on the morning of Friday, Nov. 9.

Saturday's grand opening events featured a live remote from a local radio station beginning at 10 a.m., grilled hot dogs and hamburgers from a local church as well as baked goods for sale. Saturday afternoon, the store was filled with locals taking advantage of specially priced merchandise this weekend.

To celebrate the grand opening of the store, through Sunday, Nov. 11, shoppers will receive 10 percent off their first purchase, up to $100, and may enter to win prizes including store gift cards, pet feed, clothing, power tools, a 22-ton log splitter and a chain saw. Free Tractor Supply Company baseball-style hats will also be given away while supplies last.

The Jefferson location is Tractor Supply Company’s 54th store in North Carolina and employs 14 team members. The facility has 31,440 square feet, including sales floor and support service space.

Tractor Supply Company is the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the United States and has been operating in North Carolina since 1994.

“Jefferson is a great location for Tractor Supply Company because it’s known as ‘horse country’ and there are many cattle owners in the area,” said Murphy. “Our products cater to the lifestyle of the local community. I invite everyone to come try us out. There is something here for everyone. Our friendly, knowledgeable team is here to help our neighbors find what they’re looking for.”

Murphy joined Tractor Supply in September 2010 as a part-time team member at the Wilkesboro location and later became assistant store manager. Prior to joining Tractor Supply, he was an assistant manager for Lowe’s for six years. The Wilkesboro native has lived in Jefferson for most of his life. Growing up, he helped out around his grandfather’s 150-acre farm in Johnson County, and he now enjoys raising miniature horses and gardening in his spare time.

As store manager, Murphy oversees all store operations, including receiving, inventory control and merchandising, as well as customer and team member relations.

Tractor Supply Company, listed on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange as TSCO, operates more than 1,135 stores in 45 states. Tractor Supply Company stores are focused on supplying the lifestyle needs of recreational farmers and ranchers.
