A big first quarter from East Surry put Ashe in an early hole the team could never recover from. The Lady Cardinals outscored Ashe 18-4 in the first quarter, then 22-7 in the third quarter to pick up a 62-34 win.

Keri Fulp led the way for East Surry with 21 points. Sydney Mosley scored 13 points while Sydney Marion added eight points to lead East to the win. Fulp also ripped down 13 rebounds in an impressive performance.

It wasn’t all a bad week for the Lady Husky basketball program last week, however. The junior varsity squad captured the Dr. Pepper/Miller Insurance JV Invitational Basketball Tournament Championship by beating Avery on Friday Night then taking down rival Watauga on Saturday evening to capture the crown.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday in the home opener. Avery County will be the visiting team.
