In singles, Ashe claimed five individual victories with Chase Smith, John Wooten, Nathan Greene, Justin Miller, and Zeb Richardson claiming the wins. Zach Richardson was the only Husky to not win his singles match, and he lost in a third set tiebreaker 2-7 after winning his second set 7-5. Richardson fell behind early when he lost the first set 6-2.
Greene’s match, at the fourth seed, was a close contest in the first set, with the match being extended to a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Greene managed to get the win, winning set one, 7-5. Green then breezed through the second set, winning 6-1.
In doubles action, Ashe’s first and third teams breezed through the matches easily, but the second team had difficulty with their pairings. Zach Richardson and John Wooten for Ashe paired up against the third and fourth seeds for North Surry, and in a tiebreaker, the North Surry pair came away with a 9-8 victory with the 7-2 tiebreaker.
Chase Smith and Nathan Greene paired together for a 8-4 victory in doubles, and Justin Miller and Zeb Richardson also paired together, winning 8-2.
The victory moves the Huskies tennis team to 2-0 on the season, and also 2-0 in MVAC.
The Huskies returned to action Thursday evening when they traveled to North Wilkes High School, and have off till next Wednesday, when they host their first non-conference match of the season. On Wednesday, the Oak Hill Warriors will be traveling to Ashe County for a non-conference match, and then the Huskies will be back on the road on Thursday, traveling to Forbush for their third MVAC match of the season. The match on Wednesday kicks off at 4 p.m. and Thursday’s match is at regular time, stating at 4:30 p.m.
