Elkin scored six runs in the sixth inning to turn a one run deficit into a four run victory on Tuesday night over the Huskies.
Ashe scored in the very first inning after Alex Laws walked, stole second base and stole third base. Senior catcher Carson Knight smacked a single to center to bring in Laws.
Husky pitcher Cameron Guyton had things on cruise control until the fourth inning when the Elks tied the score at 1-1. Frank Miller tripled then Daniel Brinegar singled to bring in the run.
Elkin took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Logan Newman walked, moved to second base on another walk to Drew Shinkle, and then moved to third on a passed ball. Jamey Cranford hit a flyball to left field which allowed Newman to come home on the sacrifice fly.
The Elks scored four more in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Brandon Bradley had an RBI single, Ted Shore knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly, Newman knocked in Seth Creed with an RBI single and Seth Haynes stole home to put Ashe down five runs.
Ashe got one of those runs back in the top of the seventh after a double steal. Joe Richardson stole second base while Guyton scampered home from third. After that, Ashe could not cut into the Elkin lead and dropped its fourth game of the season.
The Huskies are now 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
Ashe finished the game with six hits as a team, and played another solid defensive game with no errors committed.
Richardson led Ashe with a pair of hits. Guyton, Knight, Jonathan Barlow and Brandon Carpenter each chipped in a basehit.
On the mound, Guyton went 5.1 innings and allowed five earned runs on nine hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Bradley went all seven innings for the Elks and got the victory. He allowed just two runs on six hits with a game-high 12 strikeouts.
Ashe is scheduled to have its next three games at home. The Huskies will host North Wilkes on Friday, Avery County on Monday and North Surry on Wednesday.
