The Ashe County Free Medical Clinic was ranked high in areas of hypertension control and in all aspects of diabetes control in the latest report compiled by the North Carolina Association of Free Medical Clinics.

The Clinic is considered to be an “ELITE Clinic,” or among the top 10 percent, in Diabetes Care Management. Hypertension and diabetes are the most severe chronic conditions in the Clinic’s patient population.

Greg Bolac, the Clinic’s Executive Director, said that these results are due to the efforts and dedication of the clinic’s volunteer medical staff, and the willingness of the patients to maintain compliance with the program.

In 2012 the Clinic provided free care to over 520 patients which comprised over 1,700 patient visits.

The Clinic is funded by local contributions and local fundraising efforts. The next fundraising event will be the Eighteenth Annual Carl and Pearl Hagel Golf Tournament being held on April 27, 2013, at Mountain Aire Golf Course.
