A West Jefferson man died Thursday at the steering wheel moments before his vehicle veered off the highway and crashed into a large rock.
According to Trooper Chuck Olive, Lester Jones, 66, died while driving a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Boggs Road.
Moments after his passing while driving, Jones’s vehicle veered off the road and down an embankment before colliding with the rock.
Olive learned from a medical examiner at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center that Jones’s exact cause of death is now listed as a result of natural causes.
Olive also said that Jones was not under the influence of any substance at the time of the crash.
