An out of county company is looking at the former Catawissa site in West Jefferson as a potential location for new business.
West Jefferson Aldermen heard on Thursday night about the possibility of a new company offering 12 jobs. Town Manager Greg McGinnis related information from County Economic Development Director Dr. Pat Mitchell, and said that if financing for this project is not approved, the property owner may put the property up for bid.
Dr. Mitchell said on Sunday evening that the interested company wishes to relocate from another county with the potential for about a dozen jobs.
“I have been working with them for about six months, and I sincerely hope it goes through,” said Mitchell.
The interested company made an offer to purchase the property last Monday, Mitchell said, which went before Catawissa owner Bill Gittler in Pennsylvania. She was told on Thursday that it might take a week or so for the bank which holds the note to approve the purchase, so she expects to hear something in the next few days.
The aldermen were excited about the opportunity to expand jobs in the town and look forward to hearing positive results of the negotiations.
