Kayla Richardson was named the Southern Conference softball Pitcher of the Month for March, the league office announced Thursday.

A senior from West Jefferson, N.C., Richardson went 6-4 for the month with a 1.57 ERA and one save. She allowed one earned run her less in 7-of-12 outings for the month and threw eight complete games. Throughout a four game stretch, she pitched 25 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run.

In 16 innings against Samford, she allowed just two earned runs while picking up a pair of wins in the SoCon opening series. In the first game against Elon, she allowed just three hits and struck out a career-high tying 10 batters in a 2-0 win. She threw her second shutout of the month in ASU’s 7-0 win over UNC Greensboro. She allowed just two hits and struck out five in the complete game win.

For the season, Richardson is 9-11 with a 2.58 ERA with 15 complete games and a SoCon leading 105 strikeouts. She is fourth in the SoCon in ERA and third in opponent batting average, holding opponents to a .216 average. She is first in innings pitch with 133 and is second in wins with nine.

Richardson and the Mountaineers are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Chattanooga to play the Mocs at 6 p.m. and play a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.
