Two local men were arrested on Thursday following their failed attempt to elude a West Jefferson Police Department patrolman on Nettle Knob Road.
According to a press release from Chief Brian Grogan, Capt. Jason Finney was on patrol when he observed a vehicle operated by a driver who is known to have a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle then proceed backward up Nettle Knob Road in an attempt to evade the officer before coming to a rest in the one of the suspect’s yards, Claude Keith Weaver. Both suspects were apprehended at the scene.
Weaver, 42, of West Jefferson, was a passenger in the vehicle and has been charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and felony possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine. He is currently out of jail on a $20,000 bond. Weaver is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, May 7, the North Carolina Court System’s Website stated.
The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Ray Brown, 24, of Fleetwood was also arrested and charged with the following:
• Resist/obstruct/delay an officer.
• Driving while license revoked or suspended
• Careless and reckless driving
• Revoked license plate
He was also charged with not having insurance. Brown is out of jail under a $5,000 bond and is also scheduled to appear in court on May 7 for the DWLR, reckless driving to endanger charge, and the resisting a public officer charge, the NCCS Website stated. He is also scheduled to appear again on May 21 for numerous traffic infractions.
