Tonight’s concert features The King Bees, a dynamic blues band from Todd. Additional information and photos are available on their website, www.kingbees. home.mindspring.com/cdinfo.htm.
The Ashe County Farmer's Market will have hot dogs and hamburgers available for sale. Lawn chairs or blankets are advisable, seating is limited. Folks often bring picnics, too.
The concert series runs May through September on the fourth Friday of each month. Depending on the band, rain site is either the Ashe Arts Center, the Farmer's Market shelter, or the library's auditorium when construction is complete. The park will also have a covered stage this year to help during inclement weather. Updated information is available on WKSK in the case of a venue change.
Concerts are free, but donations to the West Jefferson Community Partnership are accepted. The Partnership is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote West Jefferson. It is comprised of representatives from the Town, the Ashe County Arts Council, Ashe County Chamber of Commerce, the West Jefferson Business Association, Ashe County Library, the Christmas in July Festival, the Ashe County Farmer's Market, and the West Jefferson Tourism Development Authority. Funds are currently being solicited to help with the Third Phase of the Backstreet Park's construction.
A CAPs (Community Arts Program) Grant from the Ashe County Arts Council and the Grassroots Arts Program from the North Carolina Arts Council is supporting the concert series along with matching funds from the Town and TDA.
Future concerts include: June 26, to be announced; July 24, Adult Supervision, four-piece rock and roll band from Raleigh and Todd, playing the music of artists popular in the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and today; Aug. 28, Amantha Mill, bluegrass - folk band, www.amanthamill.com; Sept. 25, Crooked Road Ramblers, old time band, www.myspace. com/ thecrookedroadramblers.
