The Huskies track teams continued their successful season with the Mountain Valley Conference Championship meet, and then after qualifying multiple players for the NCHSAA Western Regionals Track Meet, are sending five competitors to the NCHSAA 2A State Championship Meet. As a team, the Lady Huskies finished second as a whole in the Western Regionals Meet, falling only to West Henderson.

Prior to the Regionals, the Lady Huskies finished first at the MVAC Championship Meet with a team total 178.5 points, earning the MVAC Team Title. Individual gold medalists at the championship meet included Cara Church and Lizzie Hanes, with both women winning two gold medals.

The Huskies are sending five athletes to the NCHSAA 2A State Championship meet today, Friday, as Aaron Scott represents the only male Husky in the meet, and Lizzie Hanes, Alexis Greene, Cara Church, and Mackenzie Domske are representing the Lady Huskies track and field team.

These athletes qualified for the Championship Meet with a stellar performance at the NCHSAA Western Regionals. Hanes led the way for Ashe as she paced her way through four gold medal finishes to being named the Most Valuable Runner, as she won the 100 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles, then joined up with her teammates to win the 4x100 Meter Relay and the 4x200 Meter Relay.

Hanes’ teammates for the relays were Greene, Church, and Domske, who qualified for State in the 4x100 Meter Relay and the 4x200 Meter Relay events.

Individually, Hanes and Greene qualified in the 300 Meter Hurdles, Hanes and Domske in the 100 Meter Hurdles, and Church in the 400 Meter Dash.

Aaron Scott, who is the only male Husky to receive a bid to the NCHSAA 2A State Championship Meet, qualified in the 110 Meter High Hurdles, in which he placed third during the Western Regionals.

The 2009 NCHSAA 2A State Championship Meet is scheduled to start today, Friday, at 11 a.m. for field events, and at noon for running events. The Championship Meet is hosted on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University by the Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Greensboro Sports Commission.
