Jack H. Sturgill, age 84, of Lansing, passed away Tuesday evening, June 2, 2009 at Margate Health and Rehab Center in Jefferson.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Boone Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Bluford Eldreth and the Rev. Peter Parrish officiating. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with a Masonic graveside service.

The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. on Friday one hour prior to the funeral service

Jack was born in Ashe County on Saturday, June 28, 1924 to the late Ida Plummer and Lester Sturgill.

He was a member of Helton United Methodist Church and a 53-year member of the Mouth of Wilson Masonic Lodge in Mouth of Wilson, VA. He retired from Sprague Electric Company with 32 years of service.

Mr. Sturgill is survived by his wife of fifty years, Ressie Winebarger Sturgill of Lansing; two sons, Robert “Bobby” Sturgill and wife, Jean, of Mebane, NC, and Mark Sturgill of Lansing; one sister, Wave Davis of Aberdeen, NC; two grandsons, Robby Sturgill of Mebane, NC and Drew Sturgill of Mebane, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Walter, and John C. Sturgill, and three sisters, Thelma Sexton, Edith Brown, and Kathryn McWhorter.
