John Gaither Miller, 92, of N NC Hwy 16, Millers Creek, NC, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at his home.

He was born July 23, 1917 in Ashe County to John Ellis and Laura Ann Phillips Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents and several sisters and brothers.

Survivors include: his wife, Dollie Bea Spears Miller of the home; nine daughters, Roxie Fay Miller, Jennie Warren, Ruby Inez Cleary, Evazelle Elledge, Joann Hutchison, Nancy Mae Church, all of Millers Creek, Virginia Dare Brown, Janet Sue Hayes both of North Wilkesboro, and Bonnie Minton of Wilkesboro; five sons, William Don Miller of Nathans Creek, John Henry Miller of Fleetwood, James Robert Miller and Billy Ray Miller, both of Millers Creek, and Gaither Dean Miller of Independence, VA; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 15 nieces and 12 nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22 at Adams Funeral Home of Wilkes Chapel with the Rev. Mace Johnson officiating. Burial was in Obids Baptist Church Cemetery in West Jefferson.

The family received friends at Adams Funeral Home of Wilkes from 12 until 1 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
