Authorities identify deceased man

A body of a man was found this morning inside Mt. Jefferson State Park.

State and National Parks officials along with local authorities began a search of the park last light after a car was found abandoned on the second overlook inside the park at about 7 p.m., according to a Park Ranger Kelly Safley.

Joining state and national parks officials in the search were Blue Ridge Parkway Police, the Ashe County Rescue Squad and the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office including the sheriff’s K-9 unit.

Officials declined to say exactly when the body was found or where it was located.

At noon and Stat Bureau of Investigation mobile crime lab was seen going up the mountain toward the park entrance.

Officials did not say how the man died. Shortly toward noon they were awaiting extrication f the body from its location.

The Park has been closed this morning.
