Francis Irene Parker Shatley, age 87, of West Jefferson, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Shatley was born Sept. 23, 1922 in Big Four, WV to Roby and Sessie Goodman Parker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by sisters, Hallie Canter and Lena Mae Collins; brother, Rhondal Parke; and grandchild, Jody Shatley. Mrs. Shatley was a member of West Jefferson First Baptist Church. She loved quilting and gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Michael Lea and the Rev. Ken Morris. Burial followed in the West Jefferson Cemetery. The family received friends from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Shatley is survived by: two sons, Ray Shatley and wife, Margie, of Mt. City, TN, and J. R. Shatley and wife, Shonean, of West Jefferson; three daughters, Lena Ruth Roten and husband, Vernon, of West Jefferson, Joann Houck and husband, Kent, of Todd, and Elizabeth Tomlinson and husband, Roy, of Holiday, TN; nine grandchildren, Deborah, Keith & Sanjo Shatley, Stacy Borkowski, Francis Eller, Robin Blackburn, Danny Houck, Betty Vitt and James Tomlinson; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
