Ceremonies for the upcoming Veterans’ Day holiday kick-off in Ashe County on Sunday at Mount Olive Baptist Church at 2 p.m. A commemorative flag raising and the unveiling of veteran’s flag memorial will be presented by Troop 221 as part of an Eagle Scout Project. The church is located at 1710 Watertank Road in Fleetwood.

All veterans are invited to attend.

Services honoring local veterans will continue on Monday with a special ceremony presented by the Ashe County High School Chorus as they will host the fourth annual Veterans Celebration at 2 p.m. in the school’s gym.

All veterans, current servicemen, and family members are invited to attend the assembly.

A presentation by the chorus and the ACHS band will coincide with presentations from a student speaker and the JROTC. Each branch of the armed services will be recognized during the special ceremony.

All guests are encouraged to arrive at 1:30 p.m. so all attendees can be escorted to the proper reserved seat. For more information call Andrea Gardner at (336) 846-2400, ext. 2124.

Tuesday’s assembly will not be the only recognition ceremony presented with the assistance of the high school’s JROTC program. A Veterans’ Day program will be conducted at the Veterans Memorial at the Ashe County Courthouse at 11 a.m.

The public is encouraged to attend the event.
